The NB how you remind me/someday comparison has been done for years. However, don't tell me you can't name dozens of other bands who have multiple singles that sound alike. You could probably even make an argument for a couple 3DD songs, but like I said it doesn't matter. It just shows consistency...they're consistently good. And they must not suck cuz they're last album "All the Right Reasons" produced not 1, not 2, wait...SEVEN singles, most of them hits in multiple countries. And the album itself went diamond globally with 7x platinum in the US...3DD hasn't come close. I love both bands, don't get me wrong, prob 3DD more, but you can't argue the facts.

you can't argue that what sells best is what the general public enjoys. something simple and easy to listen to. this is why the monstrosity that was 'rockstar' became a hit and 'all the right reasons' achieved the level of success it did. this shocked me because i picked that album up on the day it debuted, listened to it a few times and thought 'meh, its ok.' what's simply the fact about why i hate nickelback now is because of this. there are many bands who i feel are far more talented and original and they don't receive the success they deserve while a song like 'rockstar' which lacks any true substance gains a band like nickelback a great deal of success.

I have to agree with the songs sound the same comments, however, I do enjoy a few of their songs. Chad has a big voice and he's a nice guy. I met him at club LAX at the Luxor last year in Vegas and he was pretty cool. I also caught a live show last year in August and they were decent. In my own opinion they are given a little too much credit. 3DD has a much broader span when it comes down to song writing and just musical talent overall as a band. I have waited a long time to see them become a household name and receive the credit they so much deserve. But I probably will download a few NB tracks but I probably won't go out and support the new CD like I have with all the 3DD albums.

Nickelback SINGLES are very radio-friendly mainstream-oriented prefab songs that yes, they recycle over and over again...true story...

songs you DON'T hear on the radio...are damn good... Flat on the Floor, Do This Anymore, and alot of their heavier stuff (some made radio, like Animals) are actually well-written and enjoyable songs. Animals in particular I liked because in that song, for the first time in four major label releases, Chad sung a third verse that wasn't re-hashed lyrics from the first two verses (listen to Someday and How You Remind Me third verses for clarification).

And Animals is so deceptively simple in it's songwriting that for guys like me who are trying to start bands by basically writing every aspect of the song myself, Chad Kroeger is a hero. That's right I said it.

And I'll say this in his defense...If I wrote an album of songs like Animals, Flat on the Floor, Never Again and Side of a Bullet, and a record label said, "Okay before we sign you we want radio tracks like Someday and Photograph," guess what... I would write and sing those songs, and smoke pot every night in order to forget about them.

Now let's be honest...alot of 3DD is this way too. And with the new album (3DD album, not NB) I must say I continue to be disappointed. Brad once stated in an interview that every love song 3DD ever did he wrote about Terika, his longtime gf and then wife. And they got divorced...and goddamn the songs are still about her. You can't listen to songs like Let Me Be Myself, Give it to Me, and She Don't Want the World and not realize that Brad's subject matter hasn't changed.

And the band has yet to replicate the hard-hitting ball-busting debut album that made them a household name. 11 songs, 10 of them heavy, even the power ballad So I Need You was one of the heaviest tracks on the album. Away From the Sun followed up with eight out of twelve heavy tracks (calling Away From the Sun, Here Without You, I Feel You and This Time the "softer tracks"), and 17 Days in which the only songs I would call heavy are Right Where I Belong, It's Not Me, (massive gap of 5 ballady songs), Behind Those Eyes, Never Will I Break, Live For Today and My World. That's half the CD soft, half heavy.

And the only four songs I can really listen to off the new album are Train, Citizen Soldier, It's Not My Time and Give it to Me, and those aren't even all that heavy. I must say the preview of Citizen Soldier I downloaded gave me alot of false hope that this album would crush monkey nuts but four songs in I'm already banging my head on the steering wheel wondering why this band keeps promising heavy albums that it doesn't deliver.

At any rate, comparing NB to 3DD is really an apples-to-oranges comparison. 3DD is signed to one of the "big four" labels, Universal, a record label that relies on radio play, MTV play, myspace play, and alot of short-term big-profit turnover to keep operating. NB is signed to Roadrunner, not one of the big four, and a label that caters primarily to harder metal that you'll only see on satellite radio, college radio and MTV2. Not mainstream.

3DD writes songs as a collaborative effort. NB is probably 80% if not more Chad. Don't believe me? Listen to the bass tracks...they mirror the guitars almost precisely, the sign of a guitarist who writes bass to mimic guitars on the lower end. I know because that's how I write my own bass tracks. If I had a bassist writing songs with me, he'd probably be doing something more complex.

Bottom line is both bands are successful, and both are doing so their own way. And depending on your tastes, you may like one band more or less, or like one album more or less. That's the great thing about music...it can reach alot of different people in different ways.

I know this will sound contradictory to my last statement, but I have to agree with Martin on this one. With bands like 3DD, Shinedown, and Hinder I FEEL something when I listen to their music. It's like there's passion in their music, hard songs, soft songs. I don't feel that with NB. I do like Flat on the Floor and Do this anymore by NB.

the thing about NB is that alot of their songs are "fun"...and what I mean by that is they're really fun to sing with four or five people in the car, for me they're really fun to air guitar and air drum (while I'm driving and singing with four or five people in the car)...and once again for me this doesn't get any better than Animals...

I have to disagree with you. Nickelback is way more mainstream, and if you listen to all there albums they went from there own style to mainstream. Thats not to say 3 doors down isn't mainstream, but at least they write different songs.

Excelet point and counterpoints. I am looking forward to the new Nichelback album. I love both but to me, they are totally different sounds. I like 3DD when I want to enjoy some presonal music about feelings, but I rock the Nickelback when I roll the windows down to enjoy the 2-55 air conditioner. I find it pretty amusing that NB is such an upsetting subject in here. I dislike a lot of bands just because I plainly don't like their music, simple as that. No one likes everything but I don't see that as a reason to start a smaller war and tossing the word "*edited**edited**edited**edited*" around in every thread the band you dislike are mentioned ;-)

I love a lot of Nickelbacks songs, for example "savin' me" has a huge feeling in it for me personally and it means a lot in my life. Other songs like "Animals" and "Next contestant" makes me wanna turn the volym up to max and rock as hell :-P

For some of you it seems like you either have to love 3dd or NB. I prefer to love them both.

They just debuted the new song here and I'm still on the fence. I like "some" of their songs. Too many sound the same and about the the same thing. At first I was very "ugh" as it started off...started to sound ok I guess...couldn't really pick out anything significant of Daniel...and I too had the problem with understanding what Chad was saying.

I'll have to give it some more tries I guess. Not too sure yet to give my honest opinion.

I think Gotta Be Somebody is a pretty cool song. Obviously geared toward the pop/rock charts. You can't blame them, they're singles usually do well...why change. They have said the rest of the album will have some heavy, dirty songs...hmmm, that could be fun. Dark Horse...November 18th.

Ok, everyone who knows me on this board know how much i LOVE 3DD..but i gotta say, i do actually like NB's new one Gotta Be Somebody..there aren't too many NB songs i DO like, so this one is kinda refreshing to me..and the lyrics actually speak to me..that's one reason why i like 3DD over Nickelback..their lyrics speak to me personally..very few of NB's songs do that..now, that's not to say theyre a bad band, b/c theyre not..their music just doesnt speak to me on a very personal level..ive also seen NB in concert and i dont like their demeanor on stage..its almost like theyre up there to be popular and make themselves look good, not to let the music speak for itself..just my opinion though..

well clearly that's your opinion...my opinion is that any 3dd album is going to sound sterile and identical song one to song twelve unless someone starts kicking brad in the nuts when he's writing songs...pissed off sounding songs rock harder...and as long as he's writing about ANY relationship guess what, we're in for a bunch of ballad-laden CDs that rock radio will ignore and pop radio and Top 40 will suck up for a few weeks then spit out...once again...just my opinion...

I have had time now to listen to the new NB song...a couple of things I have to say....one is that you can hear Mutt Lange's influence on the song so it will be interesting to hear the whole album when it comes out in November....two is this song I can see becoming a wedding song big time.....and third is.....I love this song....it's upbeat and catchy....and good to exercise too on the bike at night....some songs hit you straight off and others grow on you over time....this one is definately going to be a hit.....just like LMBM......

I've loved Nickelback since the release of How You Remind Me. Travelled down to London (about 560 miles away) to see them last month and it was well worth it, they're one of the best live bands I've seen.

I have to second what Teri said about people bashing Nickelback...ok you don't like them but there's no need to all the time to put it up for all to see....both bands are different and as said before I listen to both depending on my mood....personally I can relate more to what Chad has written about for a long time but I can also see where Brad is coming from....both sound different....but as I tell my kids all the time even if you don't like someone you should be polite to them if you run into them....so if you don't like Nickelback...fine but there are those that do ....and it's wearing thin so keep it to yourself...even Matt said in an interview...it's over and we've moved on....

Well, I completely agree, they have worked hard. And I am a big Fan of Nickelback too, but I think their songs are going downhill and I think they really need to release A song as good as How you remind me again. I think they're gonna start losing the fans they used to have. Personally I think they went downhill when they released Rockstar. Photograph was good tho. I just think they need to decide who they're trying to appeal to, 13 year old kids with dreams of being on stage or 30 year old guys who like to sing about girls who like to 'get it on'. either way, 3DD beats them everytime :)

The two singles that have been released I like, different, but I like it... but all the other stuff that looks to be on this album...

S.E.X. sounds like Animals, Part 2 to be honest. Most of these songs are about sex and drugs, which is incredibly unoriginal. I wish they would put a little more variety into their albums, most of these songs sound the same both lyrically and musically.

Just to clear something... I want to take back what i said about the samples...

I found out later that the samples where taken from a ringtone file, wich made the songs bass- and "rock"less to me :( :o That is why I felt that they sounded to much pop... I was lucky to hear all of the new songs today (a friend of mine illegally downloaded it today, so I heard them on his computer. I myself have pre ordered the album on the iTunes Music Store and waiting to get it myself to its official realese), and I must say:

I'm not scared to say my peace about Nickelback, I love them just as much as I love 3DD and I will stick up for them as much as I can, I have friends on the NBF that has listened to the whole CD and they all love it, me personaly is waiting for it to come out next week and I can't wait..

all I ask is just listen to the cd before you judge the songs, 30 seconds of it isn't enough.

Here are my honest opinions on the new album, altho I'll admit they are more based on personal preference.

instrumentation overall sounded good for the album. lyrically however it didn't sound that great. there was a couple of really solid songs on the album, however overall alot of songs i didn't find to be that interesting. a couple of things i noticed was chad's vocal's sound as if there's been alot more studio enhancement than there's been in past albums, which gives his voice a more pop sound as compared to before. i also noticed that there's almost a country influence on parts of the album, which i didn't like too much either. i'm glad i checked this out ahead of time because I'm probably only going to buy a couple songs rather than the entire album.

Ryan the album was produced by Mutt Lange...so you have to allow for his input...he's done Def Leppard...AD/DC and many others in the past...is a great producer but sometimes adds a little to much...I'm hangin for saturday...Ben said he's getting me up early to go and buy it....:D

the entire new NB album was leaked yesterday on youtube. Now it has been ereased by roadrunner records;)
I was lucky enough to listen to a handful of songs and i have to admit: It's good. I'm no NB fan but the new songs sound a bit better than everything by them so far i think. But you can say what you want about 3DD getting softer each album but of the 5 or 6 NB songs I listended to were 3 or 4 ballads....
And I have to say that the new NB sounds good not only be cause of the band but be cause of the production. So many effects from the computer which definatly is a sign for radio friendly songs....
my prediction is that they'll have another multi million selling album be cause they sound the same as always and maybe even a bit better.
costs me a lot of brave to admit that:p but I'm a honest guy.

The new NB is like any old NB...catchy....that's about it. I'm deeply saddened at how in this single they've totaly downgraded Daniel and his stellar abilities down to the level of playing drum lines any studio drummer could churn out.

you can't argue that what sells best is what the general public enjoys. something simple and easy to listen to. this is why the monstrosity that was 'rockstar' became a hit and 'all the right reasons' achieved the level of success it did. this shocked me because i picked that album up on the day it debuted, listened to it a few times and thought 'meh, its ok.' what's simply the fact about why i hate nickelback now is because of this. there are many bands who i feel are far more talented and original and they don't receive the success they deserve while a song like 'rockstar' which lacks any true substance gains a band like nickelback a great deal of success.

Its just that 3DD doesnt produce the same song over and over again and is less mainstream.

I have to say its growing on me. There are some songs that have an 80's arena rock feel to them. I also think that it's a little TOOO produced. I don't like alot of effects in my rock music. The harder songs are party songs for sure and I have a person I think about when I hear "just to get high" All in all: Has it's deep moments but the rest are party songs that describe Chad's lifestyle to a Tee.

I can't say there isn't a song I don't like on the cd....the real rockers are great...the ballady songs are good too....then the total Nickelback songs are just....well Nickelback....I still say though that Shakin Hands is about Heidi Fleiss and Something In Your Mouth is about Paris Hilton:D

I have to admit I love Nickelback. The new cd is good and all but oddly enough I find myself close to "Just to Get High" (personal reasons). My radio station is getting a little obsessed with "Something In Your Mouth" though, but in some odd way I seem to also miss the old school Nickelback.

Don't know if anyone here cares but they were nominated for 5 Junos (Canada's crappier version of the crappy Grammy's).

"Their last album was named Dark Horse, but Nickelback looked more like front-runners yesterday. The oft-maligned Alberta arena rock stalwarts scored a leading five nominations as the 2009 Juno Award nominees were announced at a press conference in Toronto.

The news was probably thrilling for the Chad Kroegerled quartet, who were nominated for single of the year ( Gotta Be Somebody), album of the year, group of the year and producer of the year (with Joey Moi), plus the Juno fan choice award. They've previously won nine Junos."

I am going to the show in New Jersey on March 6th..Can't wait..the new album is growing on me..My favorite is Burn into the Ground..great song, I hope they play it live...

My Nickelback review from 3-6-09 in New Jersey.. AWESOME.AWESOME.AWESOME..Ok did I say AWESOME!!!!!



I have seen these guys 5 times now and they just blow me away..They are so amazing in concert...

They know how to keep the crowd entertained!!!

I was front and center for the show but the stage was an odd shape. Hard to explain..They had a large CATWALK and They had Mics set up on all parts of the stage...We were lucky to be where we were..We were right in front..No better place to be.


Saving Abel opened up and I am not to familiar with their music ..I only know Addicted...Thay were good..lots of energy and a good opener.




Seether..I love them..BUT...Shaun kinda reminds me of an Aaron Lewis...very stationary..doesn't move alot..He's got a great voice and I wouldn't mind seeing them again. I just wish he interacted with the audience a litlle more. I may go to ROTR in Ohio so I'll see them there..I think ...



Now..To Chad and the boys... Chad is funny..talks alot and goofs around with the boys throughout the show..They had ALOT of pyro and ALOT of stage effects which made their show a must see! They had some guys shooting t-shirts into the audience..they gave their VIP"s Grey Goose and Crown...They had funny stories and it was just great..Shaun from Seether came out and did HEY MAN NICE SHOT..which he covered VERY WELL...Daniel Adair had his drums rise from under the floor and he did a SPECTACULAR drum solo..so good to see him :) Ryan the guitarist also did a solo..sang a cover from Kings Leon..I think that's them..He did a great job. It was just amazing to see them that close and personal. This is a concert I will be talking about for a long time.. Sorry the pictures are so small..my husband fooled around with my settings and messed it all up..I guess I can forgive him..THIS TIME ;) hope you all liked my review..Rock On....

sorry this late but I've been sick

my nickelback show in Philly was awesome, my friend Cheryl and I were right on the rail along the catwalk, when the guys walked down the catwalk Cheryl and I were yelling and screaming, Daniel looked right over at us, big smile on his face, he pointed, smiled, waved and winked at us, giving us the devil horns and a thumbs up I can't believe he remembered us that was the highlight of my night and to top if off his drum solo was freaking awesome, he was sitting on platform durning his solo it came out to the middle of the stage then lifted him up into the air and rotated, he was drumming the whole time I don't know how the man does it, he's amazing here's the link to all the pictures I took..

As much as I love Bickelback...they have good music and good lyrics...
Sometimes I feel they go a little over the top:p lol...
